Caroline is an absolute sweetheart who really just wants to be near her people. She loves her humans and is happiest when she can keep an eye on what everyone is doing. She's still figuring out exactly how to be a lap dog though. She is not comfortable on furniture yet and if you put her on the couch she will politely get right back off. Caroline has a playful, curious side and a strong desire to chew but she’s very easy to redirect to an appropriate toy. She also loves treats although she has some funny little eating habits! She can be selective about food and likes to carry her treats away to enjoy them in tiny bites. She was initially slow to eat her kibble, so her foster family started with chicken and rice and gradually introduced wet food mixed with kibble and chicken. She’s been improving and is eating more consistently.

She is also making great progress with her crate training. We’re working on getting her to go into her crate willingly and she’s becoming more successful every day (with a little help from the magic of hot dogs!). She is comfortable being crated while her people are away and overnight. She sleeps through through the night with no accidents in her crate.

Caroline knows her name and comes when called. She can be unsure of new people and may shy away when someone tries to pet her. From a distance, she may bark at unfamiliar people, so she’ll need adopters who are willing to let her warm up at her own pace rather than expecting her to immediately greet everyone. Caroline is also learning how to calmly respond to people, animals and other distractions she may encounter on her walks. She’s learning that the world is a safe place and will benefit from continued positive, confidence-building experiences.  

She is interested in other dogs and has been doing well around her foster family's dog. She can pay attention to his cues and redirect her attention appropriately. She also loves her people so much that she sometimes forgets just how big she is! She may paw at you or jump up when she’s excited, so her enthusiasm could be a little much for very young children. A home with older, dog-savvy children may be the best fit.

Caroline is a sweet girl who is still learning how to be the best dog she can be. Still learning how to eat confidently, how to be comfortable around new people, how to potty outside, how to relax in a home, and even how to cuddle. What she already knows is that she loves her people. With patience, consistency, positive reinforcement, and a little time, Caroline has all the makings of a deeply devoted companion.
